Thanks for that clarification! I can always depend upon this group for the
most up to date information!
We had actually already decided to go with the insurance provided by Travel
Insurance Group. I just wanted to confirm my information!

Re: [Idyllchat] Auto Insurance
I just checked with American Express and they don't cover car rental
insurance in the following countries:
Australia, Ireland, Italy, Israel, Jamaica and New Zealand.
So, apparently, there is going to be an insurance cost involved in renting
a car in Italy. Having been to Italy, I can understand them not wanting to
insure cars there, but I'm curious about Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica,
and Ireland.
Anyway, I hope you find something that works for you.

I spoke to the Untours office recently regarding the use of American
Express for our upcoming trip to Tuscany in September. I was told by a
member of the Untours staff that since they do not accept American
Express
the car rental agency would not accept it either. Please let me know if
your experience is different since this would help us defray some
insurance
costs.

I never buy the Rental Companies insurance. I rent using my American
Express card. American Express covers the CDW. I had a rental car counter
person try to tell me they don't, so I called American Express. They said
they absolutely do. If you are unsure, you can always call American
Express
and ask them if they cover the CDW in whatever country you are traveling
to. They covered the insurance in Scotland last fall.
When I have traveled on business with a corporate AmEx, we were
instructed
not to take the extra insurance. AmEx covered it and we would not be
reimbursed for that money if we did take it.
Since you have to use a credit card to rent a car, I always use AmEx and
I
never buy extra insurance.

Hi Patricia,
We've just returned from a month+ trip to Rome, Sicily, Sardinia. Had a
car in Sicily and Sardinia and also depended on the Travel Insured
coverage as we have many times in the past. We found driving in Sicily
a
bit more trying than most places and had a few "almost" scrapes during
rush hours in cities and towns especially on the round abouts. However
they always missed us, or we them, sometimes by the width of the paint
on
the car it seemed. But I still agree with Bob about not having
redundant
coverage.

Patricia,
We will have a car on our Idyll Untour in France in July and we are
going
to depend on the coverage provided by Travel Insured. We are not going
to buy the CDW sold by the car rental company --
don't like redundant insurance. The risk is having to pay "out of
pocket" for any damages and then get all the paper work together to
file
a claim with Travel Insured.
I have never had to use the CDW included with Travel Insured.
