I never buy the Rental Companies insurance. I rent using my American Express
card. American Express covers the CDW. I had a rental car counter person try
to tell me they don't, so I called American Express. They said they
absolutely do. If you are unsure, you can always call American Express and
ask them if they cover the CDW in whatever country you are traveling to.
They covered the insurance in Scotland last fall.
When I have traveled on business with a corporate AmEx, we were instructed
not to take the extra insurance. AmEx covered it and we would not be
reimbursed for that money if we did take it.
Since you have to use a credit card to rent a car, I always use AmEx and I
never buy extra insurance.
