Re: Butterflies??Doris:
Eleanor and I were in Scotland in 1997. (Eleanor's grandparents lived in Glasgow for about 6 years at the turn of the last century on their way from Lithuania to Montreal, Canada) We arrived in Heathrow the day of Princess Diana's funeral, and hopped on a connecting flight to Glasgow. We spent a few days in Glasgow doing genealogical research. That was followed by a drive to Edinburgh for about 4 days and more research. The remainng two weeks were driving through England, taking in York, Yorkshire Moors, Great Brington (Princess Diana's home), and Oxford. We spent 9 days in Oxford, doing day trips to London, Windsor Castle, Blenheim Palace and the Cotswolds. I loved the Codwolds.

I loved the beer. Those pints are addictive.

We would love to go back to Scotland and England, especially since we later found out that Eleanor's great-grandfather is buried in Glasgow. Too bad it's so expensive.

Very good of you Bill! Many thanks!

Eventually I will put some of my "pics" on that site too!

If you love the Swiss mountain scenery you and Eleanor would be knocked over by the unusual mountain scenery in the Scottish Highland area! My late husband I and I had some very pleasant trips to parts of Switzerland, (the Graubuenden area) but after our initial Scottish Highland visit in June, 1972 ,fell totally in love with it AND the people, and the views can only be described as breath - taking and awesome - and unfortunately - very addictive!!

Once you take a trip there - you become hooked. For good. Even when it's wet or foggy it can be intriguing; in sunny weather - it is just fabulous. And so far - not too crowded, as getting there is not the easiest part! I usually head for Ullapool, where I almost feel at home at this point, know quite a few folks there and know of two excellent local bookshops where one can spend a few pleasant hours. I also found a small and delightful B+B via the internet a few years ago and have stayed there several times. During the "season" there are a good number of fine restaurants and pubs open, though some tend to close by early Fall. And the drive north of Ullapool is absolutely fantastic!

          Hi Bill!

Here's another individual who never got the original Butterfly message - but lot of answers and comments! If it's not too much trouble - may I ask you to send me a link to your admirable photos as well? Would much appreciate it!

I happen to love nature photography - both the work of others and doing it myself.

I am a photographer of sorts myself - used to specialize in children back in NYC, but since we moved to New England's East Bay area (of R I) some years ago, I turned to note and post cards and still am the only one around here doing post cards of Bristol and Barrington RI ; they appeal mainly to tourists and have been selling well. On holidays I enjoy shooting flower close - up and the varied scenery - which in Northwest Scotland is spectacular! The sea -side isn't bad either and local weather has never stopped me from taking interesting photos in that area.

          Happy "shooting"!

          Sincerely,

          Doris Baum
