Pam,
I can't help much on the Rome details, but I definitely recommend
driving. To take the train you would have to drive 90 minutes to the
east anyway to Chiusi to get the train. Better to just go south.
Suspect it's about a 3 hour drive or so but others who have driven it
would have a better metric on this. Having wheels in Rome would be an
immense value to you, I would think.
