Sandy,
I agree with those who have responded to you so far about the Prague, Budapest and Vienna Untour. I went with a good friend on that Untour in '98 and we had a great time. We enjoyed a Mozart concert at St. Nicholas Church in Prague as well as the Idyll-sponsored evening of Dvorak.
In Budapest, we went to the Gellert Hotel one morning to their renowned bath and spa and enjoyed it so much that we returned twice more in the week. At that time, it was incredibly cheap ($8 for a half hour massage) but now that the dollar is so low, I'm not sure what they charge. We also had a wonderful Sunday brunch at Bagolyvar (a branch of Gundel but less expensive). If you are a music lover, you may enjoy the small Liszt Museum not far from the Hungarian State Opera House where we had an interesting tour. Afterwards, we stopped at one of Budapest's famous coffee houses: Muresz, which we liked the best of all the many coffee houses we visited during the three weeks. We also had lunch one day at the New York Cafe which is a very beautiful place.
In Vienna, we also loved the Hundertwasser-haus as well as the more traditional places of interest such as the Schonbrunn Palace, the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the Austrian National Library and the Imperial Palace. If you enjoy art museums, a small gem, the Picture Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts, is a wonderful experience. We went to the Musikuverein for concerts two evenings that week - the acoustics are fabulous and I enjoy seeing the hall again each year when Walter Cronkite presents the Vienna Philharmonie's New Year's Day concerts on TV.
You will have a wonderful time.
Ann

We're on our way with Untour to Prague, Budapest and Vienna within a month. I would love to know which restaurants and sites you would recommend which me might not find in the tour books.
I understand (40 years ago!) Vienna had a great, small restaurant with suckling pig on the menu where Beethoven once ate. Any clue as to which one that might be? We're interested in small concerts (in churches, courtyards, gardens, etc.) in each city. Are they relatively easy to find?
If there are tourist traps to avoid, speak up! Thanks in advance!
Sandy
