We were in Holland last June and you will certainly enjoy it,
While I cannot answer to your Keukenhof question I can answer some of the
others.
It would be impractical to make Bruges as a day trip. It is about a 3 hour
train trip (with transfer) from Leiden and since there is so much to see in
Bruges and plenty of easy walking I feel it would be worth more time than a
turn around in one day. We booked a B&B for one night and even though we had
the better part of two days there we still missed a number of places we would
like to have seen due to time restraints. Consider doing an overnight there
We enjoyed several Leiden restaurants that were across the canal back of the
apartments and down to your
left. The Greek "Delphi" was very good, very reasonable and served huge
portions. The "City Hall" was also very good. We ate there twice. The "Zout and
Peper" was enjoyable, too. One restaurant that we were told was excellent
was at the foot of the Burcht, but both times we tried to dine there the place
was completely reserved. So remember to make advanced reservations if you
want to eat there. But the finest meal we had and the priciest (we decided to
treat ourselves and celebrate my upcoming birthday) was at "het Prentenkabinet"
at Kloksteeg 25 located down the street toward the canal that runs to the
left of Pieterskerk and on the opposite side of the street from the church. It
has a very small sign hanging out. If you want to splurge we recommend this
place. All linen table cloths, tuxedoed waiters and great ambience. It is
upscale and reservations should be made.
We took a number of day trips from Leiden but a couple that we really
enjoyed were to the Hague (don't miss the huge Panorama here. Ask the Idyll rep,
Lenneke, about this) and Delft.
There is so much to see in Leiden itself and the town hosts many great
galleries and museums.
An added note. If you need to use a computer there is a bank of them at the
Ethnological Museum located just beyond the VVV ( tourist office) that are
free to use if you plan on "doing" this terrific museum.
Hope this gives you some touring incentives.
Nina
