[Idyllchat] Trail vs Auto

We stayed with the wonderful Seiwald family in June. No question we would choose the car option.
Austria has beautiful scenic roads to many locations available only by car. We took memorable hikes that were only accessible by car (see Seewaldsee, page 48) Time is another factor. Some of our fellow travelers during our term took rail to various locations that took most of the day. We were able to do the same in just a few hours. There were restaurants that we wouldn't have found if not for the car, in addition to many hikes listed in the Untours guide.
I agree not taking the car into Salzburg. For Salzburg, I agree with others that rail is more efficient. We took two Salzburg rail trips (Salzburg day fare available at station). We also took a rail trip to Munich via Salzburg (discount available).
We provided rides here and there for several Untourists who were staying nearby. In retrospect they would have preferred a car . Our car was diesel (less expensive than gas).
Another vote for beautiful Hohenwerfen! We went first thing in the morning, toured the castle, and saw the first falcon show (approx.1130am) not to be missed). The first photos taken in the morning were breathtaking.
We took another memorable walk (Bluntautal, page 44) several times. Again, early am photos with reflections of the alps on the lake were beautiful. This is an easy stroll, where you will meet and greet many walkers of all ages. If you are lucky, you may be accompanied by a group of very tame horses that go to the end of the lakes for a good roll in the grass. They reside at a farm nearby. On one day they were returning to the farm and the horses had a little fun with some cows. They blocked the path, not permitting the cows to pass. Ultimately, the lead cow found a detour through the trees. Think the horses were smiling! Another of many special Untours moments.
Will be happy to answer any specific questions. Happy planning. Joan.

We have an Untours to Seiwald A, Kuchl, Austria planned for October. This will be our first time in Europe since the late 60's.
Debating the conveniences of trail vs car rental, we would appreciate your thoughts, experiences as we make our pre-travel plans.
Thanks,
C&J
