Hi Elaine:  Our favorite short-term hotel is The Harlingford http://harlingford.com.  It is ideally located between Russell Square, Euston Station, and Kings Cross, near London Library--a favorite destination, and British Museum.  You can take a bus from Heathrow to Euston and it's only a few blocks away--big saving from taxi.  St. Margaret's is another favorite.  Go to http://stmargaretshotel.co.uk to check prices.  The Harlingford and St. M's serves a full English Breakfast, and has fruit, cereal, yoghurt, etc. Love the french press coffee.  No lifts--so you have to schlepp your luggage up the stairs.

Some other chatters will recommend Scala House.  It is very, very, good, but they may not do three day stays.  All that said, do think about Untours package--evalute all you get with the package.  What you are seeing is that London has become ridiculously expensive, even for the most modest lodgings.  Last meal at our favorite fish and chipper near St. John's Wood was nearly $85.US (only two beers mind you!).  I did indulge in bread and butter pudding!  London is wonderful, but the cost is taking the edge off.  Cheers.  Joan.

  I am going on the Greece Untour in July.  My friends and I will be able to fly into Athens a couple of days early to see the city.  I would like to go to London a few days before that, as I have never been there.  I would be doing that part of the trip alone and I thought I would try the new Untours stopover package for $685 double for 3 nights.  The single price is $1208.  That seems really high to me.  Does anyone know of a safe comfortable London lodging for a single person that is centrally located?  I might try to muddle through on my own.  Thanks for the help.
