Jay,

The valleys in the Ticino region offer a number of hiking opportunities,
e.g., the Maggia Valley and Centovalli. We also enjoyed the hiking in the
Vezasca Valley. We took the bus from Locarno to the end of the valley at
Sonogno. From there you can walk back down the valley to the village of
your choice, where you can find refreshments and a bus stop. Stopping to
see the double-arched stone foot bridge in Lavertezzo is worthwhile.

Alternatively, to get a great view from on high, take the funicular from
Locarno to Orselina. Then travel by cable car to Cardada and chair lift to
Cimetta. At this point you can take the trail to the cross at the top of
the mountain (Cima della Trosa). The 360-degree view is magnificent. From
here you can retrace your steps back to Locarno. Or you can come part way
back down the mountain and then trek cross county to Mergoscia in the
Verzasca Valley (probably about a 4-hour walk that is not particularly
scenic but interesting).

Happy trails!

Lee

Subject: [Idyllchat] Switzerland - Hasliberg(Reuti) / Locarno

My wife and I, along with some friends, are booking our first Untour. We're
doing the Swiss Heartland / Ticino sampler.

Having been to the Berner Oberland before, we are fairly familiar with the
area just west of Hasliberg / Meiringen. We plan on doing a good deal of
hiking here, does anyone have a hike in the area that they feel should not
be missed?

The second week we will be in Locarno in Ticino. There is at least one day
trip I want to make to Italy from here, but does anyone have a must see /
must do / must hike in Ticino?
