Actually, if you leave Meiringen at 0546 in the AM going via Luzern,  
you will be in Luino by 1038. The next train leaves Meiringen at 0746  
and get to Luino at 1238.

You can leave Luino at 1522 and get home by 2011. So, you would have  
about 5 or 3 hours there depending on the the train you choose.

As of today, the connection at 0546 warned that there may be delays,  
but that is likely because I planed the trip for today, not in the  
summer.

It would be a full day, but you would have two spectacular trips  
through the Gotthard valley. One of the best in CH.
