Thank all of you for your wonder information and tips. I now have a lot of ideas to pursue and, along with trying to improve my language skills, hope for a truly wonderful trip.

Again, as always, I am never disappointed by an Untour nor by the people who also this type of experience. Thank you.

Sue

Certainly read all the trip logs. They have a wealth of information.
Also, I have a log of our trip, with pictures at:

      http://www.mountainstorm.com/travel.html<http://www.mountainstorm.com/travel.html>

Other than that, read the usual tour books and all the information that
Untours sends you. And do an online search. Lots of information
there. Also the travel forums at any number of websites, like Thorntree
  and Boots n' all.

  Jay,

If time permits on a Wednesday while you are in the Ticino area may I
suggest a trip to Lunino, Italy. On this day each week there is a HUGE flea market
where one can purchase anything from live bunny rabbits to Italian leather
coats. It is a lot of fun and is reported to be the largest flea market in
northern Europe. I am sure the Untour rep in Locarno can give you the details.

Which apartment are you referring to? I believe there are several in the
Latin Quarter. We stayed in the Gracieuse and loved everything about it, the
  convenience and the location.

I agree about not seeing Ballenberg on a rainy day. There is too much
outdoor walking from one building to another and much more from one region to
another. While Ballenberg can be done in one day it is a push. We did one half on
our first trip to the Heartland and the other half on the second and found
that by doing it in two separate trips we were able to spend more time and
enjoy it more. Each time we went in through a different entrance so that we
didn't have to repeat too much what we had seen before. If you don't plan on going
back to the Heartland on another Untour then you may want to split the
viewing into two half days. Whatever, it is certainly educational and well worth
visiting. If you Google "Ballenberg" you should be able to get some advanced
insight to this area. Also, the Aareschlut walk is well recommended. If you
are staying in Meiringen I would suggest that you enter from the upper ticket
office and walk down to the lower. From there it is a nice hour's walk back
to Meiringen through the meadows and residential areas.

  Sue,

Please please please try to add a couple of more days to your trip!

One night in Florence is just a teaser. You will kick yourselves for
  not arranging a longer stay.

We enjoyed staying at the Residencia Il Villino. About a 10 min walk
from the Duomo. wonderful english speaking host, great breakfast
  included:

Follow Nina's advice! The flea market at Luino is a hoot. We have gone down twice from the Heartland on the first train out of Sachseln via Luzern arriving just after 10:00am, in time for a cappuccino and browsing. Lunch, shopping, and several gelatos later, back on the regional train to the mainline where, if you are lucky, a fashion show might ensue---women showing off their purchases, last time included a "bra". Giggles all around. Happy travels. Joan.

I agree about your schedule just being a tease. You will be able to see
"David" maybe. With that schedule, you can't even think about going to the
Uffizi. We always spend 2 or 3 nights in Florence whenever we go.
