Hi Sue,
I have also heard the Residencia Il Villino highly recommended, although we
did not stay there during our Florence visit. We can recommend the Pensione
Penzini, which is on the Piazza della Republica, and is the hotel Untours
recommends. Very reasonable, nice rooms, and excellent location. You can
roll/carry your bags to the hotel from the train station, actually, just a
few blocks.
Everyone will tell you that you really should spend more time in Florence,
although obviously a lot depends on your interest in art. Absolutely don¹t
miss seeing Michaelangelo¹s David, in the Acadamia. We did not go to the
Uffizi, because of lack of time, but of course it is probably the greatest
collection of Renaissance Italian art in the world. We did go to the Jewish
Synagogue, built in Byzantine style in the 19th century, which is absolutely
lovely, and worth seeing.
You may already know that you can reserve tickets to the Uffizi, or the
Academia, in advance, online, and it will save you standing in line for
anywhere from one to three hours.
Ciao,
Ron
PS. I have a few more paragraphs on our experiences in Florence in the log I
wrote for our Untours trip to South Tuscany, 2003, which I believe is still
available on the website, if you have any interest.
