                We were in this area last May 2006, and my wife and I just loved the area.  You have been given some excellent advise, but would like to add couple more towns to see.   Etretat on the English Channel, small town all within walking distance, not too far from Honfleur which is a must, and westward to St. Malo, walled city, where I had a flat tire and you can't believe how nice and friendly the French people was to us helping with our flat, extremely helpful.  About 30-40 miles south is a town called Dinan, this city is worth the drive alone, but with St. Malo so close, you hit the Jackpot!  Mont St. Michel is a must also, might want to consider staying overnight on island, be sure to have good walking shoes and get in walking shape now, many steps to the top, you'll find a wall half way up on the right as you walk thru the narrow street, that was my resting spot, great just to watch all the other people and shops from here.
