[Idyllchat] Right vacation in Normandy

Happy New Year to you, Barbara, and the Greuterts,

I would say Mont St. Michel is a must if you 
haven't seen it. On first glimpse-perhaps 3 or 4 
miles distant-it appears to rise out of the 
sea...which, in fact, it does. Breathtaking. Go 
midweek, early in the day, to avoid the crowds.

As you might imagine, the American cemetery is 
quite moving. I think it was in the late 50s when 
de Gaulle wanted all U.S. troops out of France 
that Dean Rusk is said to have asked him, "Should 
we dig up our dead in Normandy and take them 
home, too?"
