Rainy day, so organizing my files and memories! Thought those of you who are headed for a Castle Untour would like a restaurant recommendation for fish. This is meat and potatoes country--and you will enjoy the sauerbraten and schnitzel. But, we need to pace our diets with fish.
A few miles south of the Castle, on the edge of Bechhofen-Rottnersdorf is Fischhaus Wiesethgrund. Pass through town and just as you leave watch for signs at a small road on the left that looks like it will take you into open farm country. About 1/2 mile on the right is the restaurant (that looks like a farm house). Very, very, locally popular, a typical meeting place for all ages. Very little English spoken, but it is not a problem! They work very hard at helping out. We had several dinners an lunches. At our final departure we were made to feel very special. Other Castle folks finally found it, and felt the same. There is a pond for fresh fish (and the Castle has an adjacent trout farm). Good news is that the meals are moderately priced.
Have some fun and visit the website http://www.fischhaus-wiesethgrund.de/. There is a link to translate the basic information into English. But for fun, go to the menu in German and see what you would like for dinner tonight! The fish is cooked any way you wish, so you will learn broiled, steamed, fried, poached, grilled, etc. in German. Every entree dish is served with wonderful pickled cucumbers. They would always bring me extra. The local beer is very good. Cheers. Joan.
