Here is another daytrip I like to take each year in Venice, and you don't need a tour.
With your all-inclusve vaporetto pass, get on the #1 vaporetto and travel to Lido. Get off the water bus and get on the land bus that parks on the main street (Elizabeth, I think). That bus will take you the length of Lido, then it gets on a ferry to go to Pelistrina. The bus then travels the length of that island. At the end, you get off the bus and get on a passenger ferry to go to Chioggia, a little quaint fishing village.
It really is a day trip because the travel is about 2 hours each way. But what a lovely no-hassle way to see the lagoon and the little villages along the way. After we spent some time in Chioggia, while waiting for the bus in Pelistrina, my daughters wanted to walk a little way down the road and go onto the sand and stick their toes into the Adriatic Sea. They loved it!
One year I needed directions , so stopped into The American Cafe. Noone spoke English! That is the same year I had asked my native Venetian landlord to help with directions in Chioggia. When he called, he couldn't understand their Chioggian dialect!
How long will you be in Venice?
