Betty, by all means, spend the night in Locarno.  But even better yet, add one week to your untour and spend it in Ticino. 
That is what we did two years ago, and even then there was not nearly enough time there. There is much to see and do in the Heartland, even giving up two days to go to Ticino is cheating yourself

We are taking the Swiss Heartland tour...the apartment is in Sachsein.  Need to know how far it is to Ticino.  Is it a day trip (there and back with some sightseeing and shopping) , or should we spend the night there?
