[Idyllchat] Venice Apartments

Hi Judy,

I've not been in the apartments themselves, so can't help you there, but I know a little about each area.

The Toreselle is in the eastern end of Dorsoduro - near the Salute and Accademia vaporetto stops, both right across the Canal from Piazza San Marco. It's also not far from the Zattere, the long Giudecca Canal-side long walkway, and across from Giudecca itself, with vaporetti connecting the two. I believe it is in a very non-touristy neighborhood.

The Dona Onesta is closer to more tourist activity, but there is still a lot of Venetians there. Farther from the vaporetto, but still not too far. A very popular sweets shop is not far away. I've eaten in the Dona Onesta, a very small Venetian restaurant, with mostly venetian spoken, but the best liver and onions, and sardines en saor (sp is bad) we've had.

Both are not far from Campo Santa Marguerita, a very popular campo with Venetians, tourists and college students all mingling together. Also not far from the very popular barge veggie stand.

The nitty-gritty. Are you talking about American or European floors? Their bottom floor is called the ground floor, with the next being the first. I met a young couple (late 30's or 40's) and went to their walk-up of 4 floors. They had no problem, but I almost died! (btw I was 70 then).

You also have to remember that you will be going over a lot of rios (small canals) in your daily travels. The little bridges have 10 steps each, up and down. Most bridges have 13 steps each up and down. The 3 bridges over the Grand Canal have about 44 steps each up and down. How do I know? I counted them each time I went over them, hoping for the top soon ;-]

Yes, after a day's worth of sightseeing. I would not opt for the third floor apartment.

Hope this helps a little. Lynanne

Hello Untourists:

We are considering 2 options for apartments in Venice. One is the Toreselle
(3rd floor-Dorsodoro) and the other is the Donna Onesta (2nd floor-San
Polo). Does anyone have any recommendations for either of these apartments?
Is 3 floors a lot to climb after walking the city all day? Is one
location better than the other? Thanks for your feedback.

Judy
