[Idyllchat] I want to come back

Dear Eleanor,
Jane and I did the Rhine Untour with another couple in 1999 and loved
it, even though it rained nearly every day we were there. It was a very
rainy summer in all of Europe that year.
We stayed in the town of Bacharach in an apartment with a balcony
overlooking the Rhine. We were only a short walk from both the train
station and the boat stop.
For a small, non-touristy town, Bacharach offers a number of good
restaurants and wine bars (there are 18 wineries in the area of Bacharach).
There is much to see and do in the area, especially if you like
exploring old castles, both ruined ones and ones still habitable or
converted to museums.
The train system in Germany, at least in 1999, was nowhere near as
reliable as in Switzerland, but that should be no surprise. The Swiss rail
system is the best in the world. The German system was certainly adequate
and could be counted on to get you wherever you wanted to go in the country.
We have not done the Castle Untour, but the Rhine Untour we highly
recommend. It is in a beautiful area of Germany. Lots of good hiking and
sightseeing available. We thought it was thoroughly enjoyable and we have
been to other parts of Germany, mostly Bavaria, 3 or 4 times.
Hope this recommendation is helpful. If you would like more
information, please don't hesitate to e-mail me.
    Phil King
