"A better crop" than what?  Staying with the New Jersey theme, Switzerland 
is about the size of two of them.  Comparisons between the USA and 
Switzerland?  You be the judge.  Four "national" languages are spoken in 
Switzerland--German [sort of], French, Italian and Romansch.  I'm sure if 
this were the case in "Double New Jersey", much of the population would be 
bi-, if not tri- or even quadri- lingual. To date, the USA is an English 
speaking country, at least above the Mason Dixon Line. Cheers!
