[Idyllchat] Hiking Sticks

I have a bad knee, and have trouble on steps. So before going to Venice this summer I researched, through the internet, and also actually trying them out in stores. I finally bought a walking stick from Med Emporium here in Norfolk, Va.

It is adjustable in length and can be shortened enough to go into my 24" checked luggage. But I wanted to be able to have it in the airports for ease in walking the long corridors, but not have it loose in the plane. My daughter sewed two velcro straps to the front outside of my 19" carryon so I could attach the cane to it. Worked perfect, and no questions were asked in security.

Subject: [Idyllchat] Hiking Sticks

Looking for your help - we're packing for our trip to Heartland and Alsace, and have switched to smaller luggage this year. Consequently, our hiking sticks no longer fit, and I'm looking for an option to get the sticks checked through. Has anyone used something like a cardboard tube to pack the hiking sticks? Or is there something available similar to the bags you see people using for sending skiis in checked luggage?

Thanks for any suggestions you may have.
