[Idyllchat] Credit cards in England

My wife and I will leave in three weeks to visit friends in Devon and 
to sightsee around Bath.  Just yesterday someone phoned to say that 
people sometimes have trouble using their credit cards in England. 
Have any of you had that experience?  Are some cards accepted and not 
others?  Have you had trouble using ATM machines?
