Margie and I were there last November/December and really had a great time.
It does shower most ever day, but a good umbrella cures that. In Europe before we drove; so had no experience with the trains, and they were so much fun! After you learn to read the Schedules, learn where the city busses stop/leave...it's a cinch.
I agree with the other posters about the food. Even in a Department store, their buffet type service was delicious and the soup spectacular. Atm's were everywhere and easy to use (even for an 80 year old).
The people were congenial and helpful, and as in other Countries - take paper or plastic bags to the near by grocery for your use.
We found the off season to still be great, but missed the help and directions from Untour's representative. After we got home I continued to monitor Leiden's weather, and found it to pretty well track the weather here in Texas; so the 40's and 50's only required a lined raincoat, and light sweaters.
