Donna,
All wines have some sulfites. It occurs in small amounts naturally as part of the process of turning grape juice into wine.
For you and others who may be sensitive to sulfites in wines, however, you should look for Organic Wines here in the US. For wines to be labeled "Organic Wine," it must be made with no added sulfites. (Don't be fooled by "organically-grown grapes." Those wines can still have added sulfites.)
Check out the website for Frey Vineyards. There is a good, simple explanation there of sulfites in wine and Frey proudly proclaims their wines to be Organic and made without added sulfites.
There are other wineries in the US that make wines without added sulfites. Those are the ones you should try if you enjoy wine, but don't enjoy the headaches that come from the sulfites.

Carol,
I just have one more thing to add to all the discussion. Yes, you might be able to find the same wine here cheaper ( although I never have ), but it will contain sulfites and preservatives that won't be found in the wine that you buy in Italy. I normally cannot drink red wine here in the states ( it will give me a migraine headache ) but in Italy I could drink it with no problem.....lucky for me, eh:)
