We used to bring back wine from trips but now that it must be checked 
we don't do it any more. While the suggestion "..bubble wrap
and underwear in our checked luggage and it survived just fine." may 
work 9 out of 10 times, bags are often subjected to unbelievably 
rough handling, drop off of loading ramps, etc. Checking the wine is 
taking a big chance for damaging not only your luggage's contents but 
also the luggage of everyone else that is stored below yours in the cargo hold.
