[Idyllchat] How to take a peek at Venice?

We are going to be in Italy in October.  We are spending two weeks on an 
Untour in Tuscany North.  Prior to that we are spending a week in Verona. 
We have never been to Venice but do not have time to this trip to really add 
it to our itinerary.  However, we are considering trying to at least take a 
peek at it.  To those who are experienced with Venice, if you only had time 
to spend a day and one night in Venice and you had a car, how would you do 
it?  Where would you leave the car?  Where would you stay for the night?

We know it is not the best way to do Venice and someday we will return 
there, maybe for an Untour week, but not this trip.  Or is it crazy to even 
consider this little diversion?
