[Idyllchat] flying with wine

Carol: Not sure how many bottles you are allowed, but every time we
went to Germany, last trip 2004, we wrapped the bottles in bubble wrap
and underwear in our checked luggage and it survived just fine. Before
9/11, we used to put the wind in our carry-on. We knew we were going to
bring back wine, so we just packed bubble wrap in our luggage for the
trip back.
Regards, Andrea

We are headed to Rome and then Tuscany South in a
week. Can hardly wait! We'd like to bring back some
wine. Is it correct that we are allowed three bottles
without having to pay duty? Also, now that you can't
put it in your carryon, will it be alright in the
checked luggage? I have always been under the
impression that liquids in the unpressurized luggage
area will expand. If this is so, what will happen to
the wine? Thanks for all the great info you all are so
willing to share! Carol
