Untours will send you a booklet several weeks before your departure that
will have more ideas than you can possibly use in your two weeks. Some of
our favorites were:
Hanging out in Salzburg. Buy a sandwich and a beer at a street vendor's
and eat it on one of the squares in the old town, trying to guess where all
the tourists are from. Of course, there are also the castle, cathedral,
Mozart's birthplace, beerhalls, etc.
The castle in Werfen. Try to go when the falconry demonstration is on.
The Ice Caves above Werfen are interesting, but be prepared: Ice means
it's *cold* in there! Wear all your layers; if you plan to do this you
might tuck a pair of gloves into your luggage because the handrails are very
cold, too. This is not for the faint of heart--there are about 700 steps to
negotiate inside the cave (and they all seem to go UP!).
Munich and Innsbruck are easy daytrips.
The Grossglockner Road is supposed to have spectacular scenery, but I
can't comment on this personally because it rained the day we were planning
to take the bus trip and the visibility was nil--the bus didn't go.
