Hi Lucy,
I've not been in that apartment, but Dorsoduro is a great sestiere. If
it is near the Rio della Tereselle, you will be almost right behind the
Peggy Guggenheim Collection, and between the Accademia and the Chiesa S.
Maria della Salute, both important places to visit. That area is not
touristy at all, mostly a quiet neighborhood. There's a nice Billa
grocery store on the Zattere to the west.
You can either go across the Accademia bridge or catch a vaporetto to
get to the San Marco Piazza area. On the south side of Dorsoduro it's
easy to get the #82 vaporetto to go to Giudecca island.
Walking northwest you will get to Campo Santa Margherita, a very busy
and large campo, full of college students, tourists, and Venetians. And
some popular eating places, and outdoor veggie, fruit and fish markets.
There's also a meat shop, and a little grocery store. Before you get to
Cpo. S Margherita you will pass through Campo S. Barnaba. There's a
trattoria and several bars (cafes to us Americans) there.
If you like wine, you must try Spritz with Aperol. It's a Venetian
specialty made with white wine, a splash of seltzer water, and Aperol (a
sweetish liquour). It sometimes comes with big olive on a stick and/or
a slice of lemon or orange. In most bars a glass of wne comes with a
little bowl of chips. Also a Venetian specialty is Sgroppino - a
drinkable dessert of lemon sherbet, vodka, and prosecco.
I've stayed in Dorsoduro, San Polo, and Cannaregio. The summer of 2007
I'll be staying in the east end of Castello sestiere, right off Via
Garibaldi.

Has anyone Untoured in the Toroselle apartment in the Dorsoduro? I'd
like to hear about that location and the residence from someone who's
been there. We will be two couples staying there in October.
Thanks in advance for your comments.
