While on the subject of organs, some years ago we visited an old cathedral 
in Sion, and there they have an operating organ that dates back to the 
1400s.  I don't remember the exact date but remember thinking this organ was 
operating before Columbus sailed to America.  It wasn't operating the day we 
were there but we were assured it was still operable.  Wow!
