Rod & Sharon,
A specific recommendation I have about Prague is to consider hiring a
local guide. Based on a recommendation from a Rick Steves guidebook,
we hired Sarka Pelantova for two approximately half day walking
tours. Her web site is: http://www.prague-guide.info/ I suggest you
arrange with her prior to your arrival in Prague since she gets
booked up although she also has other guides who work with her. I
have seen good comments about those people also. We arranged with
Sarka, via email, in advance what we wanted to see with her. She was
quite amenable to tailoring our walk to what we wished to do
including a very enlightening lunch time discussion.
In Vienna, we found the Rick Steves guidebook quite helpful for some
specific suggestions for things to see and do. Once you have done
some of those, you will be well enough acquainted with the city to
strike out on your own much more.
