Hi:
You will love the Montalcino/Buonconvento area of Italy.
October is a good time to go as the heat and many of the
tourists have gone. We stayed at the Barbi Farm in l998 and
at Ada Teresa near Buonconvento in 2005--both in October.
Parking in Buonconvento is never a problem and I think that
your suggestion of early morning parking in the other towns
would be good.
In 1998 we had dinner at the Barbi Farm restaurant, which
has a following of people who like it, but we found it
expensive and not worth it. We aren't familiar with any
other farm restaurants, but can recommend the following: La
Compagnia in Torrenieri, the Dell' Arco in Murlo, La
Porto in Montichiello, Percenna in Buonconvento, and I
Poggiolini Buonconvento (the best restaurant in
Buonconvento).
Parking in the beautiful town of Pienza is not uphill, so be
sure to go there. A good restaurant there is Latte di Luna.
Enjoy! Let us know if you have any other questions or
concerns.
