To Susan Tomlinson,
Of course, everyone has different likes and interests - some people even =
like to go on Cruises. Not us! We really enjoy the Untours. We have =
been to Prague and Budapest with Untours, and to the Oberland Untour. =
Both were outstanding and very interesting. As far as the trains are =
concerned, we found that the the Swiss trains are like their famous =
watches. Right on time, and very clean. When we stayed in the town of =
Thun in Switzerland, we took either a train or boat almost every day to =
see all the sights around the lake and in that part of Switzerland. =
Visited a cheesemaker up in the Alps, and a schnapps maker near Thun, =
and saw the famous Matterhorn.=20
Germany has many tthings to see: BMW is headquartered in Munich, but I =
don't know if they have factory tours. Berchtesgaden, which is in =
Southern Germany, is very close to Salzburg, and of course is right next =
to Hitler's famous Eagle's Nest. There are castles (you can stay in =
one) and beautiful churches everywhere and lots of history including WW2 =
.
But, in addition to all the interesting sights that you can see with =
Untours, we really enjoy meeting the local people, eating the food (away =
from the tourist traps), trying to speak a little of their language, =
and just enjoying the local culture. Most of these features can't be =
enjoyed on a bus tour or on a cruise. You see what they want you to =
see, and go where they want you to go - just like a herd of sheep. =
With an Untour, you decide what you want to do depending on your =
interest. It does require a little preparation (reading about the =
places you are going), but in our opinion, it's worth it.
We have traveled to 48 foreign countries and to 49 states in the USA , =
and lived outside the USA for 7 years, and we think that Switzerland, =
Germany, and Austria are wonderful places to spend 2 weeks - with =
Untours, of course. We leave for Salzburg and Vienna in September for =
our third Untour trip.
Good Luck,
Larry and Valerie Lehr
