If this is your first untour to Switzerland, no doubt it won't be the
last. Because of Pete's advice some years ago, we began arriving a day
before and remaining a day afterwards, regardless of which Untour we were
taking, and it's made a splendid difference in our "attitude" upon joining
up with the other arrivals on the beginning of a journey (no jet-lag
feeling), and our return trips far less hectic, plus the opportunity to see
more of wherever our departure city. The only costs difference is the
extra two days lodging, plus any food costs, etc.
Obviously, this trip is too late in changing the departure date from
Switzerland, so you'll have to make that call (I side with Pete, leave a
day ahead), and I hope that you'll at least "try" doing the
arrival/departure early dates in the future; you'll love it if you have the
experience we've had. Munich, back in June as we did the untours-castle,
and during the world games, was our last experience where we arrived
several days ahead, and enjoyed it immensely.
By any chance, if untours hasn't as yet purchased your airline tickets,
give it some thought to making a change; I've been assuming that it's too
late, but that may not be so. .......sonny in Virginia
PS: Should you stay overnight in Zurich, for having a true-Zurich lunch
with the locals, local workers & professional folk, take streetcar #4 (from
the main train station) to Bellevue Platz, look on the left side forward
(from the trains) a couple of businesses and you'll see a somewhat small
kiosk with stand-up tables, some sit-down ones, and all sorts of people
enjoying lunch. Their menu?; an untourist chatter guided us to the most
fantastic bratwurst on true Swiss bread, along with Swiss bier, that we'd
had on our untour! Try it, just keep looking once you arrive at that
Platz; the kiosk is backed up against the side of a building, thus not
easily spotted, and the entire operation is in a somewhat alley-like....in
terms of size. What a memory to have in leaving Switzerland....
