[Idyllchat] What can we take on airplanes?

Thanks to the two TSA knowledgeable folks for clarifying the prescription medication rules. I checked the TSA site and they have clarified their language considerably since the original ban.
Phyllis, perhaps you can chime in when you return to tell us your first-hand your experience at the airports--specifically the medication.
Did have a TSA approved small scissors rejected at Munich at the final check point. Showed them the TSA approved list, but still had to toss them. Cheers. Joan.

HI!,,When I saw the comments by recent travelers, I had to write. My husband and I volunteer at our local airport, and we are frequent overseas travelers. I can't urge you enough to carry all your meds on your person. Your vitamins and the like are not of interest to the TSA. On our recent trip to Venice 160 people didn't receive their luggage til the 3rd day....a neighbor got hers 36 hours before they left Spain in September! If you need your meds, carry them on your person. TSA will not bother you about anything but gels and liquids, and you will be surprised how much you can squeeze into a quart size Baggie! Just put larger cosmetic items...large shampoos, hand creams, etc. into a large Baggie and pack so it's displayed clearly in case an inspector opens your luggage. This way they won't have to rummage through everything.
Good Luck and Good Travels! Judy Campbell

Hi Phyllis,
Try the official TSA website -- www.tsa.gov. It has lots of information and a way to contact officials if necessary. Assuming that present regulations are still in place when we travel abroad next summer, I am planning to put all non-prescription meds in a plastic bag in my checked bag. My prescriptions will be in my carry-on in their original containers in as many plastic bags as it takes to hold them. I understand the limitation to 3 oz. containers in a single 1 qt. bag applies only to lquids and gels. Just to be extra careful, I'm also going to prepare a list of all my meds and have my doctor sign it.
I hope this strategy is successful. I agree that it is a real pain to be a senior (I'm 80) and have to worry about being treated with suspicion!

Hi All . . .
We're about to fly overseas in a few weeks and am still mistified by what we are allowed and are not allowed to carry on.
I would hate to go without my mediations or to bring them all (including non- prescription meds - Calcium etc) in their original containers.
It's fine for a 20 year old to go without medications - but us older (70 plus) folks require a lot more to keep us ticking.
We've tried several web sites but am still unclear.
Thanks for your help!
Phyllis
