[Idyllchat] Cell phone use in Europe

Sue,

While this doesn't knowingly affect those traveling in Italy, it very well
may: While doing an Untour in the Bavarian Castle back in June, the Baron
advised us that phone companies had become very competitive there and that
if making a call to the states, one should use a five digit number (no, I
do not remember the five digits.....that was several Bavarian wines ago),
then 011+area code+phone number, and the cost would be only 2 cents per
minute, much less than making a local call. While we've never had a reason
for calling back here, my interest was piqued to the extent that I just had
to do it. I did and it worked flawlessly, all over the phone in the Apt in
the Castle. The cost was so minute that the Baron refused to accept
payment and told us to call as often as we'd like. Therefore, not wanting
to be rude, we placed a call a day for several days and the suckers all
worked.......at 2 cents per minute. At the rate my spouse spends euros in
shops, it was by far less expensive for me to keep us occupied at the Apt
making calls to America! Cell phones? Bah-humbug. Sorry, but I haven't a
notion of how to use cell phones over there. .........sonny in
Virginia
