For my tour of the Loire valley chateaux this past May, I took the advice of Joanna, the onsite rep for the Paris Untour. I took the train to Tours, then used a van service called Touraine Evasion. The website is http://www.tourevasion.com. I called the owner, Patrick, from Paris a couple of days ahead of time and made my reservation. You can also call from the states or sign up online. There are full and half-day tours. You might consider staying overnight in Tours and doing a full day tour one day and a half the next so you can see all the chateaux the service goes to. I went for just one full day tour. It was not inexpensive, but it was very convenient and I really enjoyed it.
In my opinion, an overnight to Giverny would not be worth the time. Take the early morning train from Paris, get to the garden when it first opens, then have lunch at the American museum just a short walk up the road from Giverny. You can have a lovely, leisurely day, see most everything worth seeing, and still be back to enjoy Paris that evening. The schedules for the train and the bus which runs from the station to Giverny are well-posted. It's an easy and worthwhile day trip. Enjoy!
