The recent postings about flies brings to mind the question of =
mosquitos. Up until last year, after living in Luxembourg and Paris for =
several years, and many Untours, we had yet to encounter mosquitos in =
Europe. Flies - for sure, but no mosquitos. For those of us from =
mid-Michigan mosquito country, that is something to celebrate. But last =
year, during our Untour in Austria, our luck finally ran out. Every =
night, as we went to bed (in one of the nicest apartments around, =
Seiwald in Kuchl), the little buggers would start attacking. It got to =
be a nightly ritual that, before getting in bed, I would prowl the =
bedroom with a swatter, and invariably get some, but never all of them. =
So we learned to put up with a few. On balance, the great time we had =
in Austria, and especially the wonderful hospitality of Terry Seiwald =
and her family, more that made up for a few pesky insects.

We just spent two weeks in Lungern ( 12 -26 July) and the flies were =
there. Although we ate lunch outside in Sarnen and Thun and were not =
bothered.

Isn't that funny. We have been in Switzerland many, many times and I =
don't remember flies. We had lunch in Meirigin last summer outdoors and =
no flies. I don't know if we were just lucky, or what. Both of us hate =
flies, so I am sure that we would have been aware of them.
