Hi Anne: Flies are an integral part of country life in CH. You are likely
aware that the green grass, essential to feeding the cows, is helped along
by "mist wagons", spreading manure over the fields several times a season
(beginning in May) after the first mow.. As you travel on the train, or are
hiking, you often get a whiff of "eau du Swiss", and catch a glimpse of the
fields, freshly "manured". Thus, flies thrive. Nicely decorated swatters
are generally located in all Untour residences.

I brought home a beautiful swatter in June--a giveaway in a Munich
department store. A big red daisy. a hoot. Flies there too. Cheers.
Joan.
