Our sticks, when collapsed, also fit diagonally in a 21" rollaboard; we
bought them in Murren. On the other hand, some of our Swiss hosts have
placed an umbrella stand near the door, supplied with umbrellas and walking
sticks, and encouraged us to use them.
Shoes--we find that sturdy walking shoes, with suitable soles and plenty of
support, are suitable for most of the hiking we do. For longer walks, I
might suggest tucking an extra pair of socks into your pocket or backpack;
there's something quite refreshing about putting on clean, dry socks when
your feet start to get tired.
