Vance,

No, you are not the only person who remembers Neville Chamberlain, but =
evidently most people who remember, would like to act as if they don't! =
The younger generations probably have no clue as to what you are =
referring to, and probably couldn't care less, but if we don't learn =
from past mistakes we're definitely doomed. I went to the Encyclopedia =
and looked up what was written about Chamberlain, and here it is.

"Chamberlain failed lamentably to cope with the aggressive policy of =
Hitler and Mussolini; and his technique of appeasement of the Axis =
powers, culminating in the Munich agreement of Sept. 29, 1938, has since =
been vigorously and universally condemned. In March 1939, when =
Chamberlain's confidence in "peace in our time" had been betrayed by the =
German occupation of what was left of Czechoslovakia after Munich, his =
government made an attempt to salvage British prestige by guaranteeing =
Polish territorial integrity. This measure, however, merely made =
inevitable, less than six months later, the participation of Great =
Britain in the conflict that developed rapidly from the German invasion =
of Poland into World War 11."

Because we did not go in at the beginning and finish it off then, many =
more of our young people were killed than needed to be. Nobody who is =
sane would want to go to war, but there are times when it is inevitable =
- especially when dealing with a mad man!
