All CH Idyllers have seen Mistwagens, the large tanks towed behind a tractor to spray the Mist ( liquified cow manure) onto the pasture after the grass has been cut. Likewise, we all are familiar with the "eau de Swiss" these sprayings leave behind. There are some places in CH where I could tell you where we were while blindfolded if I got a whiff. Well, here is something new. Today, the Mistwagen that I saw (usually a dull gray or green) was painted with a beautiful alpine scene all over. Furthermore, instead of a big flat nozzle in the rear, it had two fold out racks, each with about six pink (yes, pink) corrugated hoses that were drug along the ground leaving trails of mist about two feet apart. OK, what does this all mean in the overall picture? As I found out when I returned after the pasture was misted, the "eau" was missing! Practically, no areation had occurred! Do these high tech farmers realize what they are doing? Then, when I had done all my profile and had found an interesting potential partner, I get the notice that unless I am a "Gold" member, I could not contact a partner. Now, relatively speaking, this is cheap. If you sign for a year, you can pay US$ 1.00 a month. Other terms are a bit more expensive per month. To Vann's credit, he is an Idyller and has written some great trip logs. Given all that, is this SPAM? To me, it is close, but a mention of the small fee would have made it less like SPAM. Don't mean to be an old ph*rt here, and I am certainly no friend of the Gestapo On Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at 02:35 AM, Vann Schaffner wrote: Anybody on this list?=A0 To me, culture is king.=A0 Check out = 0000,6666,0000www.mylanguageexchange.com<= /color>.=A0 Vance Roy gigli.saw@dplanet.ch= --Apple-Mail-1--840202425-- From haggart@uidaho.edu Tue May 28 20:07:55 2002 From: haggart@uidaho.edu (Peter Haggart) Date: Tue, 28 May 2002 12:07:55 -0700 Subject: [Culturechat] Cool site References: <20020528003525.82678.qmail@web11705.mail.yahoo.com> Message-ID: <011101c2067a$f936cc50$59566581@haggart> This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_010D_01C20640.4CB1CEB0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Yes - many are on this list -------------- pete ----- Original Message ----- From: Vann Schaffner To: culturechat@untours.com Sent: Monday, May 27, 2002 5:35 PM Subject: [Culturechat] Cool site Anybody on this list? The Foreign Minister on CH, a man named Joseph Deiss, will likely have a lot to do with Swiss activities in the UN. His and the government's ideas are for Switzerland to focus on security, peace initiatives, and development. The Swiss want to see more stability in areas such as the Balkans, Afghanistan, and the middle east. Of course other priorities include stopping the spread of weapons of mass destruction, children's rights, and they hope to soon become a member of the Human Rights Commission. The government here is continuing to try to correct a misconception that some Swiss still harbor; loss of Swiss neutrality. It insists that Swiss participation in the UN will be independent. They do admit though that for the Swiss to be effective in the UN, they will have to form working partnerships with countries who hold similar views as those in CH. That means especially, that the EU countries and CH will be likely partners. Some of the CH right wing want the country to work to abolish the veto vote held by Security Council members. This abolishment will not be supported by the Swiss. This is only the second time this has occurred. It usually meets in Strasbourg. The Swiss are concerned about the upcoming implementation of a bilateral treaty governing the free movement of people between CH and countries of the EU. Since there is a massive movement of people from other countries into Europe, CH would be left in a position of being the only country in this sphere without a uniform system of handling new people want to stay in Europe. The Swiss don't always think that EU policies on asylum, but this would leave them out in the cold unless they agree to abide by the EU standards. Like the EU, CH is noting with some alarm, the "rising right" among groups and parties in CH and Europe. This seems certainly to be fostered by the influx of those from non-European countries.
