I'm just testing  Culturechat also...Here are a couple of customs that
fascinate me in European restaurants:  Servers and waitpersons don't always
write up what each diner wants...they just listen to your order, and then
somehow let the cooks know what  folks want.  They always seem to have a
good memory! At the end of your meal, one has to be a little assertive if
you want the bill, as your server tends to "leave you alone" until you make
it very obvious that you would like something. And what I missed the most
is the "second cup of coffee"  cuz you are always charged for it.  We
learned to get our major coffee fixes in our apartments.   Pat Barnes
