Yes you can view this post as a shameless opportunity to advertise two workshops at next week's DAACE conference. That's OK!
Learning in High Gear will focus on the importance of explicitly teaching/modeling higher level thinking skills in the adult learning situation. The person who can't think critically and creatively will be at a disadvantage in the 21st century. With information overload apparent everywhere, a person must be able to determine which information is valid, useful and appropriate to his/her own situation. As life becomes busier and more complicated, a person needs to be able to think creatively so that he/she can tailor the world to personal needs and not be swept away by current fads. (Luddites are a perfect example!) Should we be making sure that we explicitly teach/practice thinking skills in our learning situations?
The Reading and EFF workshop on Saturday will be the perfect example of how to use EFF in adult learning programs. Don't think of EFF as just a theoretical construct, it is a framework for explicit instruction in adult learning classes/sessions. This workshop is where the EFF rubber hits the road! EFF and your classroom perfect together!
See you in Rehoboth!
